Porcelain Veneers Can Enhance Confidence and Aesthetics
If you are concerned with the size, shape, color, or overall aesthetics of your smile, Dr. Paul Gabriel can mask imperfections with porcelain veneers placed at our Wexford, PA, office. Porcelain veneers are thin, tooth-colored shells that are custom-milled and placed over one or more teeth to conceal minor chips, cracks, and discoloration. Dr. Gabriel wants to help each patient feel confident in their appearance, and uses advanced techniques and materials for a completely natural-looking result.
Porcelain Veneer Basics
Over time, our teeth can suffer stubborn staining, chips, and cracks. Other common concerns include wearing, gaps between teeth, misalignment, and a generally unbalanced or asymmetric smile. Fortunately, all of these dental imperfections can easily be concealed with porcelain veneers.
Each porcelain veneer is composed of a thin, ceramic shell that is placed over the front surface of a tooth. Veneers not only conceal imperfections, but can create an overall more balanced, beautiful smile. In most cases, only a small amount of enamel is removed, usually a millimeter or less.
The Initial Consultation
Dr. Gabriel begins each porcelain veneers case with a one-on-one consultation. He will perform a thorough exam, take x-rays, and create digital impressions of your teeth to determine how to best transform your smile. Dr. Gabriel will listen closely to your concerns and treatment goals to determine whether veneers are right for you. He will also ensure your mouth is free of gum disease or decay. If needed, he will discuss preliminary treatment that is necessary before you pursue cosmetic procedures.
Placing the Porcelain Veneers
In order to make room for the veneers and ensure a natural look, Dr. Gabriel may need to gently remove enamel from the surface of each treated tooth. Some patients may be good candidates for minimal- or no-prep veneers. In most cases, though, you will need to have roughly a millimeter of enamel shaved off. Most patients only require local anesthesia to remain comfortable, but we also offer sedation for anxious patients.
Some patients may be good candidates for minimal- or no-prep veneers, which require little, if any, modification of the tooth enamel.
Once your teeth are prepared, Dr. Gabriel will take detailed impressions to guide the fabrication of your veneers. We work closely with an excellent dental lab that uses only the finest porcelain. The shade of the restorations will also be carefully chosen to match your surrounding teeth. You will be provided with temporary veneers to guard against sensitivity until your next appointment.
When your veneers are complete, you will come back to Dr. Gabriel's office for their placement. He will remove the temporary restorations, clean your teeth, perform any last-minute alterations, and then attach the veneers using a special dental resin that bonds the veneers to the front surfaces of your teeth.
