Restore Comfort and Function with Dental Crowns

If you are missing teeth or struggling with tooth decay, routine activities such as chewing and speaking can become difficult and uncomfortable. However, dental crowns can help to improve dental function and renew a beautiful, healthy smile. Dr. Paul B. Gabriel in Wexford, PA, has over 20 years of experience in restorative dentistry, and he is committed to providing patients with exceptional care. Our team provides crowns that are meticulously crafted from durable materials for lifelike results. In addition, our practice is equipped with the latest technology to make the dental crown process as efficient and precise as possible.

A dental crown can help to preserve your oral health and restore function to a damaged or decayed tooth.

What Are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are custom-made "caps" that encase the visible portion of a tooth. These restorations are designed to fit comfortably and securely over your smile. As they are composed of tooth-colored materials such as porcelain, dental crowns can blend seamlessly with the rest of your smile for a natural look.

When Are They Needed?

Dental crowns can be used for restorative or cosmetic purposes. Patients may need a dental crown if they have:

  • A tooth that is too decayed for a dental filling
  • A cracked or otherwise damaged tooth
  • Extensive dental staining
  • Had root canal therapy

A single dental implant can also support a crown to replace a missing tooth. Dr. Gabriel is a member of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and has been recognized for his extensive experience in dental implantology. As such, he can place dental implants and an implant-supported crown when necessary.

The Treatment Process

During your consultation, Dr. Gabriel can thoroughly examine your smile to determine if you are a candidate for a dental crown. He may request x-rays or other advanced images to review the underlying structure of your teeth and jaw. If a dental crown is the appropriate treatment, Dr. Gabriel will begin by administering a local anesthetic to ensure your comfort. He can then remove areas of damage or decay and reshape the tooth structure to make room for the dental crown. Next, Dr. Gabriel can take impressions of your smile, which will be sent to a dental laboratory for the fabrication of your custom crown. This process can take up to two weeks.

As our crowns are crafted from the highest quality materials, you can enjoy a restoration that looks and feels natural.

To protect your tooth in between visits, Dr. Gabriel may place a temporary crown. Once your final crown is ready, you will return to our office for placement. Dr. Gabriel will first remove the temporary restoration, and then check the fit and color of your new crown. When you are satisfied with the design, your doctor can cement the permanent crown in place, revealing a restored smile.

The Benefits

Dental crowns reinforce weakened teeth, so you can once again chew and speak normally. These restorations also seal the tooth completely, which helps to protect your smile from further damage and decay. As our crowns are crafted from the highest quality materials, you can enjoy a restoration that looks and feels natural.
